A carton of replacement drill batteries and a cordless tool kit need different shipment descriptions. Before a supplier in China completes the order, confirm how the batteries will be packed and which transport option can assess that configuration.
We review courier and air freight options for power tool battery enquiries from manufacturers, distributors and importers. Spare packs, retail tool kits and tools with installed batteries should be identified clearly at the start.
Tell us the origin and destination country, and whether you are sending batteries alone or a tool order. Detailed specifications and documents can follow during assessment.
For lithium-ion power tool products, the actual packing arrangement determines the starting classification:
| Shipment configuration | UN entry | Air packing instruction |
|---|---|---|
| Batteries alone | UN3480 | PI965 |
| Batteries packed with the tools they power | UN3481 | PI966 |
| Batteries installed in tools | UN3481 | PI967 |
The applicable section and conditions still require review. Include every battery model and any additional spare packs in the order information.
Lithium-ion batteries above 100Wh fall outside the small-battery simplified provisions, including when packed with or installed in tools. Discuss the applicable DG requirements with the operations team.
For a sample or after-sales replacement order, ask about a courier option for the actual pack and destination. For a larger purchase order, also request an air freight assessment. The number of cartons alone does not establish which service can accept the cargo.
DHL, FedEx and UPS can be considered only where the relevant channel covers the destination and accepts the shipment configuration. Keep any quotation tied to the same model list, packing and delivery address when comparing the options.
For air freight, confirm the delivery scope. Airport arrival, import clearance and final delivery are separate parts of the proposed arrangement, so agree which are included before booking.
A tool order may contain several kit versions: a bare tool, a tool with one battery, or a kit with additional spare packs. Ask the supplier for a breakdown by kit version instead of a single total labelled “power tools”.
If the factory adds replacement packs after the quotation, send the revised breakdown before dispatch. The team needs to review the changed contents rather than relying on the earlier shipment description.
Protect battery terminals and secure the contents against movement. Tools also need protection against accidental activation. Packing and labels must suit the confirmed configuration and carrier requirements.
For formal review, we identify the technical and commercial information needed by the proposed channel. The supplier's available documents should correspond to the models in the purchase order. An initial enquiry can begin before the full set is ready.
Provide a product name or photo through the website's consultation service and tell us the destination country. State whether the order contains spare batteries, tools or both. Our team will explain the next information needed to assess a route.
